DoubleBack Safety and Support Dog Harness by Ruffwear
This is one serious harness
The DoubleBack is capable of vertically moving dogs up or down significant distances with ease and safety
The DoubleBack was designed for backcountry adventures such as canyoneering and climbing but can also be used around town or in the home for dogs with mobility issues.
The rear leg straps give good hip support and can be stowed in a pocket attached to the main harness when not being used for belaying. The underside of the harness provides support with a large padded section that cradles the dog and relieves pressure. There are also several handle/attachment points on top of the DoubleBack to provide options for stability and control.
• Harness is strength-rated to 2,000lbf or 8.9kN
• Padded belly support and leg loops provide stability and weight dispersion
• Customizable, secure fit with seven points of adjustment • Anodized aluminum Doubleback buckles for safety and durability
• Main tie-in point provides easy rope attachment
• Leg loops can be stowed for increased mobility during approach
• Low-light visibility with reflective trim
Backpacker Magazine said “It’s about time a doubleback harness came out for dogs. The straps are easy to adjust and cinch tight. Clyde, all squirmy 80 pounds of him, was safe crossing rapids in Boulder Canyon”

I saw this harness on the Internet & it looked like it would benefit my older disabled dog. I thought I'd order one & give it a try.
When I received the harness I was impressed with the quality. I thought it looked kind of short on my old dog, but once I got everything adjusted it fit perfect.
When I first got it I took several days just putting the harness on over my dog's head without strapping on the belly band. This worked out very well. By taking the time to get her use to the harness has paid off. She now wears the harness for several hours each day without complaint.
The harness is a great help lifting her when she falls. I read one review by a purchaser who said the harness was not good for older disabled dogs. Perhaps that was true in their situation, but I have found the opposite to be true. My dog has a spinal defect & has deterioration of the muscles in her hips & hind legs. The harness make it much easier for me to help her walk on slick surfaces, and to help her up when she falls.
I would recommend this harness for elderly dogs who having dogs with weakness in their hips. I'm not sure whether it would be helpful for dogs with hip dyplasia, but it sure works for my old dog.
