Palisades Dog Backpack by Ruffwear
The Pinnacle of Backpacks for Dogs – Great Fit, Load Stability, Hydration Included, Outdoor Fun
Remove the saddlebags yet the Web Master dog harness remains. The Web Master alone is a $50+ harness
This is the absolute best dog backpack for hiking especially for extended hikes and consecutive day treks. The Palisades can stand up to rough weather, rugged terrain and long-term use yet remains comfortable for the dog with padded straps, a pack made of materials that won’t rub a dog the wrong way and is well ventilated. The six pocket saddlebags are designed to angle weight to the shoulder area instead of middle of back. Proper fit is just as important in a hiking dog pack as a human pack and the Palisades has multiple adjust points that secure the pack while not impeding movement.

Recommended for more casual outings: the Ruffwear Approach Dog Pack or the EzyDog Summit Dog Backpack
Other dog camping gear to consider: Ruffwear Grip Trex Dog Boots, Herbsmith or Glacier Peak Holistics herbal blends, and NRG Maxim dehydrated food or Orijen freeze-dried food.
A common question with dog packs is "what size to get" since proper fit is critical. Purchase a pack that is appropriate for the type and frequency of expected use and Always measure! In general, if the dog's measurements put it on the border between sizes, keep it on the snug side. A too-loose pack will flop about and irritate the dog.

"I was somewhat skeptical that such a large pack, with a feature such as removable saddlebags, would stay secure with a very active dog. The Palisades Pack surprised me and endured the bushwhacking and snow rolling adventures of two very active dogs." Gear Institute
